32 km. from the City, the first mountains emerge with a
multicolored hills denominated Sierra Pintada. There it
is situated the only open mine of uranium exploitation.
This material is sent to Atucha I and Embalse, thermonuclear
power stations. Moving toward the south, by National Route
144, we start the ascent of Cuesta de los Terneros that
reaches a maximum height of 1.000 meters.
In
the top there isalso a natural window that shows us San
Rafael Oasis. The Franciscan Catholic order has erected
a monument to their founder San Francisco de Asís
in this place, as a tourist attraction. Then you descend
in route to El
Sosneado, Malargüe and Las
Leñas.
